I’m the AAROM (Aboriginal Aquatic Resources & Ocean Management) Coordinator with Dehcho First Nations. Dehcho First Nations resource management includes both the AAROM program, which is mostly environmental monitoring and the Dehcho K'ehodi Guardian Program, which focuses on language and getting Indigenous peoples back on the land and making observations in their traditional territory.
With the water monitoring, the data that we’ve been collecting is showing that the water in the area is very clean. Things are always changing down South and every time there is something that happens in the Southern part of the basin there are concerns that it’s going to come downstream. So, people want to have that reassurance that the water is ok and that it's being monitored.
